Career

Police Officer
Police Officers perform a number of tasks both directly and indirectly related to protecting and serving the Baton Rouge community. This job can vary significantly depending on the unique role of each officer and his or her unit – from uniform patrol, where all officers begin their career, to our special response team, narcotics unit, motorcycle patrol, and many more.
Officers’ tasks may include patrolling designated areas in the city limits of Baton Rouge, responding to and investigating misdemeanor and felony crimes, and responding to and investigating traffic crashes; interviewing and obtaining statements from individuals involved in alleged crimes, gathering evidence, making arrests, administering first aid, and securing crime sites; and enforcing traffic laws. Officers are also responsible for performing other police-related duties as assigned.
Officers must respond to situations firmly, courteously, and tactful with respect for the rights of others, and they must analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action. Begin your application
